A Moment's Peace

A Mom's Guide to Creating Calm Amidst Chaos

by Elizabeth Irvine, BSN

Inner peace: a rather general subject. The author (who also happens to be the Educational Partner for Andrew Weil's 'Weil Baby') addresses it from corner to corner and leaves you feeling inspired, introspective, and in control. Even the most collected and content of moms, the ones who seem to have few worries, know what it is to feel pressured by the demands of life or oneself, and each of us stands to gain something from this book.

It is laid out as an ongoing narrative divided by chapters, but you could easily open it to any page and find a helpful tip or inspirational anecdote. All parental bases are covered, from active solutions for every type of mom, like tai chi, walking in nature, knitting, or stone healing to insight for achieving that elusive internal calm, like being comfortable in our own skin (a big one, we think). And, as it is a book on calm, it is only appropriate that is beautifully written and structured, with exquisite photographs sprinkled throughout.

This is a book for mom. It is less an instructional guide to parenting and more a support for handling moment by moment stresses, such as work or dinner time. A Moment's Peace is brimming with help for every mother who has ever uttered the words, "I wouldn't trade being a mom for the world... but it sure is tough!"
