Handy Dad: 25 Awesome Projects for Dads and Kids
by Todd Davis
illustrated by Nik Schulz
Be the envy of the neighborhood with these parent-approved and kid-tested do-it-yourself projects. User-friendly for all levels of expertise, Handy Dad takes you from “easy” (like paper airplane and lava lamp) to “afternoon projects” (like rope swing, bird feeder, and sand candles) to “weekend projects” (like dollhouse, bike jump, and zip line) with detailed instructions, illustrations, and photographs.
The finished projects involve both indoor and outdoor activities, and while the author suggests that Dad and kids can work together during construction, Dad will have to know what his kids’ capabilities are with measuring/tools/fine motor skills, etc. (The projects’ instructions don’t indicate which of the steps are kid-friendly.)
Author Todd Davis, the host of “Over Your Head” on HGTV, says it best: “these projects will stimulate children's creativity and encourage their pursuit of bliss, as well as give fathers something to do with their kids that does not involve computer games or listening to Raffi.”
The finished projects are aimed at kids about 5 and older.
