Toot & Puddle: Let It Snow
by Holly Hobbie
Toot and Puddle: what great names! Wouldn't you like to know the story behind those? Maybe Puddle was a real pig who had a preference for wallowing in mud puddles and Toot... well, we digress. It's not their names that make these little piggies melt your heart all the way home. It's their love for each other and their darling depictions through Holly Hobbie's drawings, which don't just follow the story but weave it together in an important way. Toot and Puddle have that cozy, down-home charm and live in an idyllic world, but they come up with much of the same dilemmas that children do. This time, Puddle is yearning for a white Christmas (doesn't every child have a certain fascination with snow?) and Toot is plotting the perfect gift for his friend (we think it's worth mentioning the importance of creative gift giving that this story emphasizes). It deals also with making the best of unexpected disappointment. The true spirit of Christmas is well and alive in this book.
